Head Cross Country Coach - Topeka West High School The coach helps students achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for the values and discipline related to the sport or activity and sportsmanship. The primary concern is the safety and welfare of each participant. The coach provides leadership and coordination in the assigned activity or sport. Qualifications: Possession of a Kansas teaching license at the time of appointment. Physical/Emotional Requirements: (The incumbent may be required to use the following skills and abilities during any part of the working day.) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet demands from several people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. Occasionally, extended hours may be required. Performance Responsibilities: Oversees tryouts and selects participants according to established guidelines. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport. Plans and schedules regular practice sessions. Works with the Activity Director and/or Assistant Principal to schedule contests, practices, meets, and competitions. Recommends equipment, supplies, and uniforms for purchase. Prepares and adheres to the approved budget. Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, physical forms, and other required paperwork. Oversees safety conditions of the facility or area used for the sport or activity. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition. Attends required KSHSAA meetings and fulfills test requirements. Arranges transportation for teams. Maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Communicates effectively and fosters positive relationships. Informs students, families, and community about policies, activities, and rules; prepares a team handbook. Implements policies promoting character development and skills for post-secondary success. Ensures compliance with athletic eligibility policies and supports students' academic progress. Assists students in transitioning to college athletic opportunities. Distributes and cares for equipment. Establishes injury prevention programs. Ensures supervision during contests, meets, and practices. Submits budget requests to the principal. Supervises participants until transportation is available after practices or games. Supervises, evaluates, and recommends hires or terminations of Assistant Coaches. Supports the district’s educational mission and complies with policies and regulations. Performs additional tasks as assigned by the superintendent or designee. Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
